A question for all people.
I am curious about the influence of African culture in literature. I know of the influence of the Sundiata of Mali (15th century I believe) which was the inspiration for "The Lion King", and also of the Tales of Uncle Remus, which are traditional stories that Black Americans kept for centuries and that can traced back to Africa.
Which other influences in universal literature, that you know, can be traced directly to Africa?

Hi,
I can't believe anyone has more information about the topic!
Please, try to remember which traditions in the English Speaking world can be traced Back to Africa, at least in Literature.
If you are interested, I could say that in Hispanic America, the Cuban poet Nicolas Guillen used African patterns to develop a superb poetry.
Regards,

Omar,
Anansi stories are pretty popular in the West Indies. I remember both reading them in children's books, and listening to them from adults.

On Curaçao , Aruba , and Bonaire he is known as Nanzi, and his wife as Shi Maria. Anansi stories originated in Ghana, in Africa. The word Anansi is Akan and means spider.

Thanks!
That's wonderful!
I read the page and I found that the myth is also related with the Uncle Remus history! (I remember it from childhood in the form of Br'er Rabbit, thanks to Walt Disney's version)
Great!
I wish it we could know more about that forgotten heritage, particularly in literature.
